Welcome toThe Silence of Mary Home
The Silence of Mary Home is a very special home committed to serving the chronically poor in the inner city of Harrisburg, whose needs go unmet. This lay-based mission was formed in 1999 by Susan and Vern Rudy and a group of volunteers. Our primary purpose is to create a Christian family environment where all people on the margins of complex society find sanctuary and have their basic needs met in the company of a compassionate and caring family.
What Makes Us Different?
We are not a shelter with limited stays nor a group home. We are a Christian family home that provides a family structure with stability and moral and Christian values to the chronically homeless and abandoned. We become a family for those who have none. The Silence of Mary Home operates purely on the generosity and donations of individuals and businesses, and 100% of all monies donated goes directly to serving our family members.
Our home is an oasis for castaway or runaway youth from broken or troubled families, or whom courts have granted a second chance. Young immigrants and refugees newly arrived in the United States are also being helped at our home. Pregnant women and teens and needy mothers with small children also find shelter, assistance, compassion, and hope at The Silence of Mary Home.
We welcome you to our new website! We hope you will find the answers to many of your questions as well as information about our services and upcoming events and projects while browsing through our site. Thank you for your interest in The Silence of Mary Home.
God Bless You,
Susan Rudy, Executive Director
